This post is about the joyful celebration of Pesach in Kibbutz Maabarot, it was organized in the dining hall, and everyone present in the event had an amazing aura of happiness, gratitude and love. Yael Cater, one of my good friend here in Israel, invited me to join her and her family in their table. In my book, it is a definite night to remember!
Below photo is an example of a Seder Plate for Passover, the word seder means order or arrangement, this was taken in the dining hall of Maabarot.
The Passover Seder Plate is a special plate containing seven symbolic foods used by Jews, each of the items arranged on the plate has a significance to the retelling of the story of Exodus, which is the focus of the ritual meal, in the Haggadah of Kibbutz Maabarot, there are only six symbolic foods on a seder plate, the maror and chazeret is considered as one.
First on the list is the Karpas, which can be a celery, parcely or boiled potato (in this case, it was a celery), which means rebirth or rejuvenation of the Jews; next is the Maror and Chazeret which are bitter herbs, maror is a condiment known as chrein and the chazeret is, typically, a romaine lettuce, these symbolizes the slavery and hard labor in Egypt; the Charoset is a mixture of dates, nuts, apple, cinnamon, and wine, used to rid of the bitter taste left by the maror and chazeret; zero'ah could be a roasted lamb, goat shank-bone, chicken wing or chicken neck (a chicken leg in this case) which symbolizes strong physical attributes; next is the Beitzah, a hard-boiled egg that symbolizes the mourning of the Jews brought about by the destruction of the temple; in the middle is the matzah, which is the special bread eaten during Pesach.
