Tagaytay Picnic Grove is a 13.5 hectare of land developed by the Philippine Tourism Authority located in Barangay Sungay, to the east-end of the city. I don't know if it is still under the supervision of the PTA, I checked on their website but the link to the said place is inaccessible and the receipt that we got stated that it is already under the Tagaytay City government, I'm not really sure, I asked the man who gave us the receipt but he didn't know either, so beat me.
Tagaytay Picnic grove is nestled on a hill overlooking the Taal Volcano and the coastal town of Batangas. Budget travelers and city-dwellers flocked here on weekends to have that special family picnic, entrance fee is at 25php, for kids and adults alike, parking fee is at 45php and depending on the number of your group you can choose to rent a picnic table, shed or pavilion, we opted for the shed which cost us 150php, but, if you're really thrifty, you can just bring a big mat and have your picnic on the ground.
Various facilities can be found on the resort, conference rooms, meeting rooms, restaurants - Alamat Restaurant and Bar which serves ala carte menu and the View Deck Restaurant, a good place for parties and seminars; souvenir shops and other food stores; a butterfly sanctuary, biking, skating, and horse-back riding area, and children's playground; there's the newly-added Eco-Adventure Trail, a 404-meter trail which will test your stamina, I drank liters of water after we had this hike *grins*.
There's just this one thing that I noticed, which I think is not really necessary - they demolished my old-time favorite cottages in Picnic Grove, I heard that the administrators plan to build new ones that can compete with the flourishing posh hotels in the vicinity. Tsk... tsk...
A favorite hang-out of budding artists and photographers because of the scenic view and abundance of Philippine flora. Tagaytay is the ultimate place to unwind and relax, bond with your family, live a good life. I plan to go back, maybe next month and I hope to blog some more of its treasured places and gastronomic food finds. See you then!
